The above table shows the source of CO2 emissions in the United States.

Stabilizing CO2 in the atmosphere requires cutting CO2 emissions by 60% worldwide. IPCC wants 30% reduction by 2030.

Current information on CO2 Emissions

The chart at the left show CO2 emissions in 2003.
They went up slightly in 2005 - 2007, then went down due to the recession so that currently they are only slightly higher than in 2003.
The percentage by source has remained the same.
While coal fired emissions have decreased by 4% from roughly 50% of emissions from generating electricity to 46%, emissions from natural gas generated electricity have increased by 4%.
Meanwhile China's CO2 emissions are now approximately 20% greater than U.S. emissions.
