Taken By Storm

The Troubled Science, Policy and Politics of Global Warming

By Christopher Essex & Ross McKitrick

Early in Taken by Storm the authors discuss the behavior of fluids and turbulence. This discussion brings to life the latest theories dealing with turbulence beginning with Kolmogororv's Trashcan and leading to the newest findings that the smallest action can create large consequences.

The impact of these theories on the use of computers in climate prediction is discussed in sufficient depth that the non scientist can follow the conclusions reached by Essex and McKitrick.

The book establishes the dynamic relationships between scientists, the media and politicians to help explain the current status of the debate on global warming.

Lighthearted headings such as "T-Rex Plays Hockey" and "T-Rex Devours the Planet" and "Ceiling Fan Gasses and the Global Blowing Crisis" are used to discuss serious subjects.

About the Authors:

Dr. Christopher Essex is a Professor in the Department of Applied Mathematics at the University of Western Ontario, specializing in underlying mathematics, physics and computation of complex dynamical processes such as climate. He is visiting professor at the Niels Bohr Institute's Ørsted Laboratory, and previously served as as NSERC visiting fellow at the Canadian Climate Centre and an Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellow.

Dr. Ross McKitrick is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Guelph and a Senior Fellow of the Fraser Institute in Vancouver, B.C. He specializes in the application of economic analysis to environmental policy design and climate change.
